In December 2025, the Hangjinqu–Hangshaotai Link Expressway officially commenced trial operations. Shanghai Sansi Electronic Engineering Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “Sansi”) implemented its comprehensive intelligent variable message sign (VMS) and information release solution to enable the smart upgrade of a 40-km pivotal section, establishing an efficient “Smart Hub” for traffic flow.
Beyond the newly opened link, Sansi digital transformation of the 150km Hangjinqu Expressway trunk line has been operating stably, emerging as a benchmark project for smart transportation in the Yangtze River Delta. This milestone marks the entry of the region’s southern corridor into a new data-driven phase, setting a demonstrative model for smart highway development nationwide.
Spanning key cities including Hangzhou, Shaoxing, Jinhua, and Quzhou, the Hangjinqu Expressway serves as a critical traffic artery in the Yangtze River Delta. Its 150-km digital enhancement project is a flagship Digital Highway initiative in Zhejiang Province. Designed to meet high-reliability requirements under complex road conditions and high-frequency operation, it drives a profound shift in expressway management from experience-based to data-driven governance.
For this project, Sansi developed a new-generation intelligent VMS and a tiered control system that deeply integrates IoT, artificial intelligence, and cloud-computing technologies. The system performs real-time aggregation and intelligent analysis of multi-source data—such as traffic flow, incidents, and weather—enabling anomaly detection within seconds, precise warnings, and full coverage of key road sections.

Characterized by high reliability, strong coordination, and rapid response, the system acts not only as a “real-time display window” for network operations but also as a “precision execution terminal” for cloud-based command decisions. AI-powered algorithms identify anomalies in seconds, automatically issuing warnings, guidance, and public service information, which significantly improves traffic safety and management efficiency.
As a high-speed junction connecting multiple trunk lines, the intelligent development of the newly opened Hangjinqu–Hangshaotai Link Expressway is equally critical. Tailoring its approach to this section, Sansi deployed a full-scene information release system that includes specialized alerting devices such as variable message signs and audible/visual warning screens. This creates a three-level (“macro-meso-micro”) traffic guidance network. Supported by a unified smart traffic management platform, the system delivers comprehensive safety control, proactive traffic regulation, and tiered dissemination of road condition information. It enables lane-level precision guidance and advanced risk warnings, thereby boosting overall network efficiency and strengthening emergency response capabilities. This offers a scalable, replicable systems solution for the intelligent development of complex hub sections.

From the newly opened link to the stably operating trunk line, Sansi’s core systems provide end-to-end support, enabling the critical transition from experience-based to data-driven governance. The result is substantially enhanced traffic safety and operational efficiency, reinforced emergency response capacity, and a replicable model for smart expressway operations.
