Zhangjiagang City, located at the intersection of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the Maritime Silk Road, is named after its natural deep-water port. In 2023, the city's GDP reached 336.58 billion RMB, ranking among the top in China in industrial economy, urban governance, ecological environment, and livability index.
To further advance the construction of a smart, dual-carbon city and actively respond to national energy-saving and emission-reduction policies, Zhangjiagang launched a comprehensive upgrade and renovation of urban streetlights in 2024, putting green development into practice and promoting sustainable urban growth.
Most of the streetlights in Zhangjiagang were high energy-consumption sodium lamps and early-generation LED lamps, facing challenges such as high power consumption, low maintenance efficiency, and suboptimal illumination rates. To improve the urban living environment, the renovation of the urban lighting system was prioritized. In September 2024, Zhangjiagang Urban Management Bureau officially launched the streetlight upgrade project, and Shanghai Sansi Electronic Engineering Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Sansi LED), with the project implemented through Sansi’s innovative energy management service model.
The project involves replacing more than 24,000 old sodium lamps with new LED fixtures, upgrading existing LED streetlights, and building a brand-new smart city lighting operation platform covering the entire urban area. This comprehensively addresses issues such as aging facilities, high energy consumption, and elevated maintenance costs.
The upgrade covers the city’s “seven horizontal and five vertical” main road network, resolving problems including tree shading and overdue service life of fixtures. Through the newly established Zhangjiagang Smart Urban Lighting Management Platform, refined management has been achieved, significantly improving energy-saving efficiency, operation and maintenance standards, and nighttime illumination quality, while ensuring safer travel for citizens.
After the renovation, the new LED streetlights provide higher brightness and more uniform light distribution, significantly improving nighttime road visibility and making travel safer and more convenient for residents. At the same time, the substantial reduction in energy consumption of LED lamps has markedly lowered the city’s overall energy use, making a positive contribution to local energy-saving and emission-reduction efforts.
Moreover, the launch of the Zhangjiagang Smart City Lighting Management Platform has greatly enhanced operational efficiency. Managers can now monitor the real-time status of streetlights, quickly detect and resolve faults, dramatically improving maintenance response times and reducing costs. Citizens have widely praised the upgrade, noting that the transformed streetlights have made the city’s nightscape more beautiful and travel more reassuring.
A key highlight of the project is Sansi LED’s energy management service, which provides professional hosting and enables precise energy management of streetlights in Zhangjiagang. Tailored solutions ensure both reliable illumination and maximized energy efficiency. Backed by core technologies and integrated hardware-software systems—from high-efficiency, energy-saving luminaires to intelligent management platforms, and from innovative cooperation models to long-term operation and maintenance mechanisms—Sansi LED brings extensive experience in streetlight renovation and energy hosting.
In the comprehensive upgrade of Zhangjiagang’s urban lighting, Sansi LED has provided full-chain support with its advanced technology and professional team—from scheme design and equipment selection to construction, installation, and ongoing operation and maintenance—strictly controlling every stage to ensure high-quality project delivery. Its mature energy hosting service has already created new benchmarks for “high-efficiency, fully smart” urban lighting in cities such as Zhangjiagang and Xuzhou in Jiangsu Province.
